Do you have to wait to go through cancer to start changing your life so you’re stronger, happier and healthier? Casey is three times cancer and stroke survivor and, in this episode, she shares her personal story of recovery and transformation.
Back in 2014, Casey was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia for the first time. Having gone through chemotherapy, applying for medical trials and feeling like having no options, but to try anything, she was determined to find happiness again. We chat about how going back to her previous life and job, pre-cancer, was just not working out and how she searched for anything that might help her.
Casey opens up about how she realized, that she had to leave her job and completely change what she was doing at that time. Even if it took her six months, she did it and now she guides other cancer survivors through the experience she went through herself.
Casey says that she is grateful for what she has gone through because it made her change the direction of her life. While she wouldn’t want to go through cancer again, she learnt how to live her life according to what she really wants as opposed to ticking the boxes on the “supposed-to-do-in-life list”.
We discuss how we are so much more resilient than we think and how we can use this to our advantage, because it’s never too late to start making changes. Chatting about Casey’s book, we touch on how difficult it is to face change and the “end of era” in our lives, be it the end of cancer treatment, the end of marriage or children leaving home.
